According
to the Hindu Mythology, Lord Shiva is seen with dreadlocks
(known as the jataa) piled up as a knot on his head. Details
say that the uncontrollable speed of Ganga or the Ganges
is checked by his dreadlocks.
It
is said that Shiva takes the weight of the mighty Ganges
in his locks and imprisons her. In times of need she is
released through the locks of his hair, which prevents the
river's force from destroying earth, and the waters bring
purification to the planet.Hence the jataa or the dreadlocks
of Shiva (also known as the 'Mahayogi') illustrates the
symbol strength.
